Celebrating Woodstock
Saturday, August 15, 2009
The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival and Majic 102.7 invite you to a day of FREE music, art, organic food as we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Woodstock Art and Music Fair.
Starting at 2pm, music from the Woodstock Era will rock the theater; local artists work will be featured in the courtyard; and a street festival will feature Organic Foods, arts and crafts, and more. Don't forget to bring your own acoustic guitar and join the all day jam...then as the sun goes down, the big screen goes up as we show for FREE on the street, "Woodstock".
On August 15 – 18, 1969, The Woodstock Music Festival changed the world. The three days of peace, love and rock 'n' roll in upstate New York had much more meaning than hippies gathering around to party.
It was a cultural experience. It was the grooviest event in music history. People came from all over to watch musicians like Santana, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Creedance Clearwater Revival, Jefferson Airplane, Blood Sweat & Tears, Joan Baez, Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. Vendors sold crafts and Vietnam War protesters spoke about the war. It was a cultural experience of the troubled decade.
To commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Woodstock The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival invites you to have a similar experience at Cinema Paradiso. The day will feature concert films featuring many of the same bands, plus a local artists’ gallery featuring works by the Artspace Sailboat Bend Loft Residents, organic food, and an acoustic jam and drum circle – so bring your guitar, banjo, mandolin, bongos or other instrument and join in.
The 40th Anniversary Celebration of Woodstock will be held both inside and outside in the intimate courtyard at Cinema Paradiso.
JUST ADDED

We will be having a silent auction for a set of never used or perforated "three day tickets" from the Woodstock Festival! we have seven sets of these rare and unused $6.00 advance tickets. These are from the original batch of $6.00 that were never circulated. As the event got closer, the ticket prices were increased to $7.00 and $8.00
A portion of the proceeds from these tickets will benefit the Browar County Film Society.

About the films Monterey Pop A film about the greatest pre-Woodstock rock music festival. Includes performances Woodstock performers Canned Heat, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, The Who, Country Joe and the Fish, Jimi Hendrix; along with Simon and Garfunkel, Mamas and Papas, The Animals, Otis Redding and others.
A Night at the Family Dog San Francisco was at the center of an explosion of artistic creation during the mid-to-late 60's. Whether it was art, poetry or music, the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco was the place for like-minded individuals to explore and create. Videotaped on location at Family Dog On The Great Highway in San Francisco in February 1970, the show captures the heyday and diversity of the San Francisco sound with three of the most well known bands to emerge from the scene: Santana, The Grateful Dead; and Jefferson Airplane, who were, at the time, the biggest of the bands from the San Francisco Bay Area. Festival Express Set in 1970, Festival Express was a multi-band, multi-day extravaganza that captured the spirit and imagination of a generation and a nation. What made it unique was that it was portable; for five days, the bands and performers lived, slept, rehearsed and did countless unmentionable things aboard a customized train that traveled from Toronto, to Winnipeg, to Calgary, with each stop culminating in a mega-concert. the entire experience was filmed both off-stage and on, but the extensive footage remained locked away - until now. A momentous achievement in rock film archeology which combines the long-lost material with contemporary interviews nearly 35 years after it was first filmed.
Features: Grateful Dead, The Band, Sha Na Na, Delaney and Bonnie, Flying Burrito Brothers, Janis Joplin, Buddy Guy, and more! The Who: Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival The original Who line-up performing a full live set in front of 600,000 people at the Isle of Wight Festival in the UK in 1970. At 2am August 30th... The Who appeared on stage and gave one of the most memorable concerts of their career.
Jimi Hendrix: Live at Woodstock Jimi Hendrix: Live At Woodstock features film footage from Jimi Hendrix's unforgettable August 1969 Woodstock concert newly re-edited and presented uninterrupted and in its original performance sequence. Jimi Hendrix: Live At Woodstock features never before seen version of "Foxey Lady," " Message To Love," "Hey Joe," "Spanish Castle Magic," and "Lover Man." Woodstock An intimate look at the Woodstock Music & Art Festival held in Bethel, NY in 1969, from preparation through cleanup, with historic access to insiders, blistering concert footage, and portraits of the concertgoers; negative and positive aspects are shown, from drug use by performers to naked fans sliding in the mud, from the collapse of the fences by the unexpected hordes to the surreal arrival of National Guard helicopters with food and medical assistance for the impromptu city of 500,000.
