6:00pm - Dream Wanderers of Borneo(Documentary / 58 minutes)
Through Borneo's untamed and uncharted rainforests, brothers Lorne and Lawrence Blair seek the last of the nomadic Punan Dyaks, the “dream wandering” tribe thought no longer to exist. Against a backdrop of spectacular scenery, the Blairs calmly endure the adverse elements of the jungle: monsoons, quicksand, frightening insects, and leeches. Today this is called eco travel, but for the Blairs it was 800 miles of trekking and canoes with no GPS, cell phone or any of today’s conveniences. Instead they relied on their native guides’ kindness and wisdom of the land.

2:30pm - Brunei Darussalam - Custodian of the Rainforest (Brunei)
(Documentary / 14 minutes / English)
The British High Commission funded a short film, entitled 'Brunei Darussalam: Custodian of the Rainforest', a tribute to the environmental leadership shown by Their Royal Highnesses The Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Brunei Darussalam, and by His Majesty's Government. The film charts the experiences of three British students who accepted an invitation from Brunei's Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade and Universiti Brunei Darussalam, to take part in the ASEM Workshop on 'The impact of climate change on biodiversity' in January 2010. Their adventure in the 'Heart of Borneo' enhanced Brunei's reputation as a prime location for serious science.

British High Commissioner Rob Fenn said:
"I had the pleasure of working with talented local film makers, UBD and MoFAT on this project. We are all proud of the outcome. Climate change is a global challenge, but Brunei's forests can be a significant part of the answer. Science tells us that Brunei's peatswamp forests are the most powerful system on the planet for squestering greenhouse gasses. And Brunei's legendary biodiversity makes this country a front line laboratory for studying the impact which global warming will have. Put these factors together with Brunei's secure, well-serviced and research-friendly environment - such as the Kuala Belalong Field Studies Centre featured in the film -and we could have a win-win situation. The international community can benefit from basing climate science in Brunei, and Brunei can benefit from the boost that gives to diversifying its economy. "My hope is that this film, and the ASEM intitiative it sprang from, will inspire young scientists from across the world to come and see what Brunei has to offer.

Noon - Metamorphosis of Anguilla - (Anguilla)
(Documentary / 51 min / English)
Writer Sir Vidiadhar Surajprasad (V.S.) Naipaul dismissed Anguilla as a mistake. Filmmakers Cédric Robion and Juan Gélas are rather more sympathetic in their portrait of this tiny Caribbean island, a British overseas territory with just over 10,000 inhabitants and a colorful history that belies the size and apparent tranquility of the place. Starting with the military invasion occasioned by the political unrest of the late 1960s, the film traces the recent past, from days of economic hardship to the coming of the island’s dubious savior, tourism. Interviews with older Anguillans tell of a simpler time of fishing, making music and sailing, the islanders’ once-great passion. There are also interviews with personalities such as the feisty ex-revolutionary Ronald Webster, the former premier and staunch royalist Sir Emile Gumbs, and the noted musician Bankie Banx.

To purchase this DVD email the director Cedric Robion at telemacprod@yahoo.fr, who is currently filming his next documentary in Marie-Galante, a tiny island near Guadeloupe.

He gets into mischief, learns valuable lessons on living from an old former slave, drinks too much one time, and even sets fire to one of the run-down shanties. Regardless of his pranks, José never lets up on his studies and in the end, his diligence pays off.

Darling Legitmus won the "Best Actress" award at the 1983 Venice Film Festival for her role as the grandmother in this film, and Rue Case Negres received the 1983 Cesar for "Best First Film" for director Euzhan Palcy.

“A robust and highly entertaining picture…an abundance of rollicking action, wonderful imagery and committed performances…a viscerally engaging adventure that works the emotions…Ward’s spectacular vistas prove that New Zealand’s scenery is even grander sans hobbits and centaurs, his camera finding awesome sights that underscore the tumult of the character drama.” - Empire, Luke Goodsell

“Frequently brilliant…Ward plumbs the nation’s soul brilliantly… Actors Temuera Morrison and Cliff Curtis: blaze charisma.” - The Dominion Post, Alexander Bisley

“Handsome location photography and fervent performance. What is interesting about Ward’s story is that the dividing lines [between the indigenous peoples and their imperial oppressor] are not as clear as they seem.” - Guardian, Peter Bradshaw
