1. What is the Sustainer Membership Program?

Members who participate in the Sustainer Membership Program of the Broward County Film Society (BCFS) make ongoing monthly payments through automatic bank transfers (EFT) or automatic credit/debit card deductions.

By choosing to have a Sustaining Membership, you provide the BCFS with the continuing support needed to secure the future of your favorite programming, as well as ensuring that new programs and services are made available to our entire viewing community.

  1. How do I become a Sustaining Member of BCFS?

It’s simple and budget-friendly! To have monthly deductions come from a bank account, please click your desired membership level.

  1. Is the only way to pay for Sustaining Monthly Membership by credit card?

No. When you sign up online, you will be given a choice to either provide your bank information, including account and routing numbers or credit card information.

  1. I’ve never used my credit card on the Internet before. Is it safe?

A secure server through PayPal, which encrypts your credit card information when it is transmitted to BCFS for processing, protects all transactions conducted on Encrypted files are scrambled during transmission to us and back to you when we verify your transaction with us.

  1. If I’m joining as a team, are we able to use two credit cards for the recurring payments?

Only one credit card can be used for payment processing. If a member chooses to pay all fees up front, you may choose to split the annual cost between two members.

  1. Do my rates increase annually?

As a Sustainer Monthly Member, your rates will remain the same for a minimum of three years. You will be sent a renewal reminder nearing the end of your three-year commitment.

  1. Why is there a price difference between monthly and yearly giving?

There are fees associated with set up, maintenance and the continuation of the Sustainer Program, which allows it to be affordable and convenient.

  1. Is there a penalty for cancelling my Sustainer Monthly Membership?

BCFS Sustainer Monthly Membership is a minimum of a one-year commitment. This commitment renews automatically annually. All Member levels may cancel at any time. As stated in your Member Bill of Rights: Authorization shall remain in effect until I notify BCFS Member Services and my bank, in writing, that I wish to end this agreement. This could take up to 30 days.

If you are an Executive Producer or Superstar Member, you will be subject to a penalty of the remainder of the years’ commitment.

  1. What happens if I unsubscribe from membership and want to subscribe again after a month or more has passed in the same year? Will me rates still remain the same?

This is a good question often asked by folks who are snowbirds or seasonal visitors to the area who are loyal supporters of the Arts. It’s not possible to pause a Sustainer Monthly Membership. You are able to unsubscribe at any time. However, we would be unable to guarantee the same Member rates at the time of renewal.

  1. 10. Is my membership tax deductible?

Your contribution to BCFS is tax deductible to the full extent allowed by the law in the United States. U.S. residents who make donations and receive premium benefits above the minimum value established by the IRS will receive an acknowledgement letter that includes pertinent tax information. In all tax cases, it is best to consult your tax consultant.

  1. When does my membership expire?

BCFS Memberships are valid for a minimum of three years from the month and day  you join.

  1. How do I change the level of my membership?

  1. Is there a Member Card and what is the Member Card?

Your Member Card is one of the most valuable benefits you can enjoy as a supporter of BCFS. Only BCFS Members receive weekly DISCOUNTS at each of our movie theaters (Ft. Lauderdale & Hollywood), FREE vouchers and discounts for films year-round and discounts during the annual Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival. The card is magnetized and all benefits are recognized once swiped at participating theaters and event venues.

  1. What are the additional Weekly Member Discounts?

  1. I haven’t received my Membership Card

Membership Cards are processed as promptly as possible and will be sent to your home. Occasionally, we encounter delays. Please notify us if you have not received your card within 10 business days.

The Membership Department must receive your active and updated mailing address. Each card is assigned to an email address as well. If you are a team membership, two emails addresses MUST be provided to activate each Member Card.

  1. My employer participates in a matching-gift program. How do I get the forms to have them match my contribution to you?

  1. May I purchase a gift membership for someone else?

Yes, you can give a gift Membership at any level of support. The recipient of your gift will receive the benefits and privileges as previously stated. Call 954-525-3456 ext 105 or give a gift online specifying in the notes section during your purchase who the gift is for and the mailing and emailing address of the recipient.

  1. Does BCFS exchange names, addresses or email from its membership list?

BCFS has a long-standing policy of never selling its membership list to commercial entities. From time to time we do exchange our mailing list with other non-profit organizations in the area in an effort to expand our membership base and community support.
